BACK-UP! BACK-UP! BACK-UP!

This is the single most important piece of advice we can offer.
If you have ALL of your documents, emails and downloaded files not a lot can go wrong,that can´t be fixed by us... however we can´t re-create your files.
If at all possible keep a secondary back-up off-site (i.e. in another building) this prevents problems being caused by fire and theft. Nothing is more annoying than if you back-up correctly and then lose your data because something else happens.

With so many great re-writeable products on the market, external hard-disks, memory sticks, CDRW´s DVD-RW´s there is no excuse. Even cost is no excuse as the most expensive of these solutions can cost under 100€... A lot cheaper than paying for the data to be recovered by a hard-disk manufactuer.

Also there are a lot of different software solution for scheduled back-up´s a lot of which came with your PC. Such as NERO which comes with the PC´s we create.

USE A SURGE PROTECTOR!

This almost comes up as high as the BACK-UP tip as it can save you YOUR WHOLE SYSTEM and more importantly a lot of money and your data.
Surge´s are surprisingly common in Spain and repair cost have been previously as high as 400€ plus on some systems affected by surges and worst still can cause COMPLETE DATA LOSS.

There are two types of surges protectors. One´s that work, and one´s that just claim to work.
It is easy to tell the difference, the good one´s are insured normally for more than 5,000€.
The other surge protectors (non-insured) are to be treated as just extension sockets.

USE GOOD ANTIVIRUS SOFTWARE

We only recommend two antivirus software companies at the moment.

F-Secure - we use this ourselves

Norton Antivirus - Still a good piece of software.

IN CASE OF A FAILURE UNPLUG EVERYTHING.

If your system fails first turn off the PC.
Unplug everything, the power, the mouse, the keyboard... everything!
Then just plug in the power, keyboard, mouse and monitor, and switch on...

If everything works, turn off again, and plug the other equipment in again
one piece at a time, switching on and off in between each item.
If this works you have fixed your PC for free!!!
